cloudscout.com » Blog Archive » Wide Eyed - Calculating and Comparing TV Screens - My Sony 32" has finally given up the ghost :( It barely survived my use/abuse of 8 - 16 hours or more a day of being on for 9 years... and it's been slowly breathing it's last gasps for the past year and now I'm lucky to get a picture 1 out of 7 days assuming I turn it on once a day. I figure $500 minimum to get it fixed (I could be wrong but I'm going with my gut) so I might as well get a new TV. I've long lost the papers on which I had worked out the equations for figuring out screen dimensions from the diagonal measurement of a screen and it's aspect ratio... luckily the internet occasionally has something more than pr0n and pr0p0ganda to offer. Oh... and I think I'm done with Sony on TVs too. For now anyway. Back when I got the 32" I worked at an electronic store and was able to get a great deal on an open box model that had been sitting on the floor for more than a month. I had nothing to do with the fact that this TV was placed back in a corner where we didn't encourage customer traffic because the really cheap small screens were back there! How dare you imply such a thing!! Hehe... good times...
